Curability is a project that aims to preserve and enhance European cultural heritage by making it accessible to all, specifically by enabling cultural access for people with disabilities as well as training professionals working in museums and galleries in order to make environments and experience accessible.

Access to cultural heritage is not only a basic human right, but also a fundamental strategy for enhancing and promoting cultural heritage. Furthermore cultural heritage inevitably plays a key role in creating a European community, and in building the future of an inclusive and cohesive Europe.

At the same time, even though heritage accessibility is a multidisciplinary field, we see how different disciplines such as museology, pedagogy, and inclusive design, for example, continue to work in isolation and without establishing a dialogue, leaving a lack of common teaching practices for the needs of people with disabilities, and an absence of experience and knowledge about making spaces and experiences accessible.

Curability main goals are:

  • To propose innovative accessibility solutions that enable people with disabilities to fully benefit from cultural heritage.
  • To help museums develop a better understanding of the needs of visitors with disabilities and implement the necessary environmental and attitudinal changes and improvements.
  • To share best practises to improve the skills and competencies of cultural institutions in working with people with disabilities to improve their access to cultural heritage.
  • To engage people with disabilities as advisors, co-designers, and evaluators of proposed accessibility solutions.
