3D4DEAF: Empowering Deaf Learners through 3D Technology and Social Innovation

The Erasmus+ co-funded project 3D4DEAF is breaking new ground in inclusive education by combining 3D design, digital learning, and social entrepreneurship to empower deaf and hard-of-hearing learners across Europe.

This innovative initiative responds to a clear need: the lack of accessible and future-oriented training opportunities for Deaf individuals in vocational and adult education. Through the integration of advanced technologies and entrepreneurial thinking, 3D4DEAF is enabling learners not only to participate in education but to lead in shaping their professional futures.

The 3D4DEAF project aims to:

- Strengthen the digital and creative skills of Deaf learners

- Provide inclusive training content tailored to Deaf communication preferences

- Support educators with tools for inclusive, tech-enhanced teaching

- Empower learners with social entrepreneurship skills to launch their own initiatives

Key Results & Resources

One of the core innovations is the Dual Competence Framework, which combines training in both 3D technologies and social entrepreneurship across three levels:

- Starters - Basic concepts of 3D printing and entrepreneurial thinking

- Movers - Intermediate training on modeling, planning, and creativity

- Experts - Application of innovation in launching real-world ventures

This framework is supported by the 3D4DEAF Dual Training Pack, which includes:

- Module 1: 3D design and printing

- Module 2: Social entrepreneurship - from ideation to business models

- Educator guidebooks for inclusive delivery in classroom and virtual settings

To support accessible, remote learning, the project has developed an interactive cloud-based learning platform and mobile app, featuring:

- e-Academy - Virtual learning environment with structured training content

- e-Assessment - Badge-based validation using the Open Badges framework

- Mapping Tool - Identifies best practices in 3D and inclusive entrepreneurship

- e-Community - Networking and mentoring space for aspiring Deaf entrepreneurs

- e-Calendar & e-Forum - For real-time interaction and updates

- e-Glossary - A living resource on Industry 4.0 terms

Augmented Reality Game

A standout feature of the project is a gamified AR experience designed to teach the steps of launching a social enterprise in sectors linked to Industry 4.0. This tool increases engagement and supports experiential learning through immersive simulation.
